Associate Physicist

Mirion Technologies is hiring an associate physicist to work within the physics group, as part of the spectroscopy division, located in Meriden, CT.

The physics department supports both the development of new products, improvement of current products as well as assisting in the manufacture, testing and qualification of production devices and systems. You will be working with a small group of physicists providing expertise in a wide range of technologies, measuring alpha, beta and gamma spectroscopy.

We are looking for someone who is meticulous with details with an insatiable curiosity.



  • Support for customer orders, preparing, analyzing and reviewing measurement data from gamma spectroscopy systems.

  • Perform sustaining functions such maintaining and QA testing of laboratory equipment

  • Support for new product development.

  • Develop knowledge of Mirion products and technologies.

  • Testing and characterization of HPGe and NaI detectors.

  • Assist in the development, and testing of integrated detection systems, and

  • Support the development of new products under the guidance of senior research scientists.



  • Stay up to date on computer technology.

  • Develop programming skills to participate in software tool development and maintenance.



  • Solid foundation in the field of radiation detection and measurement.

  • Familiarity with electronic test equipment.

  • An understanding of the mathematics of radiation, including statistics.

  • Comfortable with computer use, including some experience in programming.

  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to complete a common objective, and

  • Problem solving with self-initiative.



  • Programming skills in python (preferred) or other programming language.



  • 0—3 years’ experience experimental physics.

  • BS in Physics / Nuclear Engineering.
