Job Description:

The Senior Manager, Operational Excellence reports to the DMD NA Vice President of Operations and has overall responsibility for helping to develop and drive the implementation of DND NA Operational Excellence / Lean strategies and principles across the region.  This includes direct application of Operational Excellence tools and concepts to a variety of business work groups which include operations, sales, service, engineering, product management, finance, and human resources.  The position will lead, train, coach and mentor individuals at all levels of the division to ensure program growth and sustainability.  This position may be asked to engage on a global and/or corporate level on occasion.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the site change agent and systematically drive the use of Lean tools for continuous improvement and change throughout operations to achieve targets in business growth, total quality management, customer experience, cash flow and productivity.        
  • Set the pace as the regional Lean Coach in driving multi-site and multi-functional Lean transformation.        
  • Lead the DMD NA region Operational Excellence Steering Committee to ensure there is an active pipeline of projects aligned to business priorities, metrics and results.
  • Develop and implement on-going processes to ensure that there is a solid sustainability mechanism/review for past projects.
  • Lead site and functional group KPI reviews each month including identifying project gaps and implementing/tracking countermeasures.
  • Establish and mature the Lean Management System (tiered daily management systems, gemba walks, and leader standard work) and other coaching tools to further develop the culture.        
  • Coordinate activities and results between regional sites and functions teams ensure that implementation standard work is being followed and that best practices are being shared across the division.
  • Drive development of leaders, lean practitioners and the general population relative to a best practice approach as the Mirion Business System is developed and deployed.
  • Partner with business leaders to develop, promote, standardize, and drive operating mechanisms which provide key performance indicator visibility, accountability, and action planning to continually improve business performance.
  • May participate in global division and corporate activities including project management and reporting to the division president(s) and corporate teams.
  • Develop a culture that includes safety improvements as part of the overall Operational Excellence and Business System strategies.

   

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 5 + years working experience in a manufacturing environment with leadership/project management experience focused on Lean implementation across multiple sites and functions.
  • Lean practitioner with prior experience working in the Toyota Production System (TPS), Danaher Business System (DBS), Honeywell Operating System (HOS), Factory Physics Execution (FPX), or other recognized Lean business system models.
  • A ‘hands-on’ track record of implementing successful Continuous Improvement (CI) elements such as: Lean Leadership (Daily Management, Leader Standard Work, and Gemba Walks)
  • Strategy Deployment (hoshin planning), A3 problem solving and Value-stream mapping leadership experience.
  • Experience leading Kaizen events including elements such as standard work, cell design, Value-Analysis/Value Engineering, error-proofing, material flow, heijunka, and kanban.
  • A holistic thinker who is effective in influencing leaders to develop transformational target states and rapidly drive change through the full organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree required in business, engineering, operations or science is preferred.
  • An advanced degree such as an MBA is a plus.
  • Strong financial and statistics acumen is strongly preferred.       
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.        
  • Ability to coach & facilitate teams.        
  • Strong leadership and decision making ability.        
  • Knowledge, experience or training in Lean techniques and proficient in process auditing.        
  • Possess a continuous process improvement mindset with the ability to effectively lead and manage change.     
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.        
  • Possesses a solid working knowledge of other business functions such as Logistics, Finance, Sales, Engineering, and Human Resources in addition to Manufacturing and Quality.      
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite.        
  • Must be able to travel as needed up to 50%.        
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
