Mirion Technologies and Paragon have introduced an enhanced Simulator Room at Paragon’s Fort Worth, Texas facility for demonstrations, training and system validation. The environment brings together key instrumentation and control (I&C) technologies into a single integrated platform that showcases the strength of the Mirion Nuclear Solutions portfolio.

Nuclear I&C Systems

The I&C solutions operate within a unified platform that reflects how modern nuclear facilities integrate protection, monitoring and plant control systems. The core product lines featured in the simulation environment are HIPS, CoreVision, RAMSYS and proTK™.

HIPS (Highly Integrated Protection System) – A Paragon solution and reactor protection system purpose-built to meet today's cybersecurity requirements and the complexity of next-generation reactor designs. Built on FPGA technology, it combines analog-like reliability with modern diagnostics to rapidly detect abnormal conditions and initiate protective actions to maintain plant safety.

RAMSYS – A Mirion Technologies digital radiation monitoring system and world-leading RMS product line, with over 30,000 measurement channels installed across more than 250 nuclear facilities worldwide. It provides comprehensive, real-time measurement of radiation levels across plant environments, covering area monitoring, effluent release, containment, process monitoring, and post-accident facility management.

CoreVision – A Paragon analog neutron flux monitoring system that provides reliable power level monitoring and control, giving operators real-time insight into reactor conditions and performance with less downtime.

proTK – A Mirion Technologies digital, modular platform for neutron flux monitoring as well as safety-related radiation and process monitoring across the plant. Highly customizable, it enables nuclear facilities of any size to monitor reactor power and operational processes while serving as a state-of-the-art replacement for legacy analog systems, reinforcing integration and interoperability across plant systems.

Mirion Chief Nuclear Officer, Tighe Smith shares:

“Bringing these technologies together in a single environment allows us to demonstrate how modern nuclear facilities integrate protection, monitoring and plant control into one cohesive system. As the nuclear field continues to evolve and new reactor technologies move forward, this space will be key to our customers and partners.”

Real-Time Nuclear Reactor Simulation

At the center of the demonstration environment is a real-time reactor simulator developed in collaboration with SimGenics. The simulator enables hardware testing, allowing actual I&C hardware to interact with a simulated reactor environment. This creates a realistic setting for demonstrating system performance, validating integrated workflows and testing advanced configurations before deployment.

By connecting key radiation protection and monitoring systems in a single environment, the simulator demonstrates how integrated I&C solutions can support safe and efficient nuclear plant operations. Mirion and Paragon experts can guide visitors through operational scenarios that illustrate how data and control systems interact across multiple layers of plant operations.

Integrated Nuclear Solutions

Mirion Nuclear Solutions combines advanced I&C, radiation monitoring, plant systems and regulatory expertise for a comprehensive approach to nuclear operations. The capabilities of Mirion, Paragon and Certrec together support the full lifecycle of a nuclear facility, from initial design and licensing through modernization and long-term operation. As demand grows for reliable, carbon-free power, the platform is built to meet the moment, keeping existing plants running safely and efficiently while helping bring next-generation nuclear technologies to life. The newly enhanced Simulator Room demonstrates what that integrated capability looks like in practice, by showcasing a more connected and capable I&C offering for the nuclear industry.
