This course is designed primarily for users of ISOCS / LabSOCS characterised germanium detector spectroscopy, although many of the topics are also applicable to NaI detector or generic characterised germanium detectors. The course emphasises the use of fundamental principles to model objects and produce an efficiency function to aid in the analysis of spectra from the modelled object and practical sessions geared to the customer. Workstations and equipment (where available) are provided to aid learning and enable students to practice topics covered in this course.
This course provides the student with the basic principles and practices of producing models to represent the item being measured. It is intended for health physics, radiochemistry, and nuclear measurements / assay personnel who have experience in gamma counting and want to further their knowledge of the methods of producing models for a characterised detector without the need to prepare a calibrated sample representing the item. It is recommended for personnel who are responsible for modelling items using a characterised detector.
