Mirion and Paragon Chief Nuclear Officer Tighe Smith Receives ANS Presidential Citation
Fort Worth, TX – June 1, 2026 – Tighe Smith, Chief Nuclear Officer of Mirion and Paragon Energy Solutions, a Mirion Technologies company, was awarded the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Presidential Citation at the 2026 ANS Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado on June 1. Among the Society's highest honors, the Presidential Citation recognizes individuals who demonstrate outstanding service in support of ANS and the broader nuclear community.
Smith received the citation in recognition of more than 20 years of contributions to nuclear engineering, digital safety systems, international commercial leadership, and industry policy engagement. Throughout his career, he has played a significant role in advancing nuclear safety, innovation, and regulatory excellence, helping to shape the technologies and frameworks that support both today’s operating fleet and the next generation of nuclear reactors.
“This recognition from the American Nuclear Society is a profound honor,” Smith said. “I am grateful to be part of an industry dedicated to delivering safe, reliable energy solutions. This award reflects the collective efforts of the many colleagues, partners and organizations I have had the privilege to work alongside over the years. Together, we are advancing technologies and standards that will ensure nuclear energy continues to play a vital role in a clean and secure energy future.”
Smith leads global nuclear strategy for both Paragon and Mirion, an expanded leadership position he was appointed to in February 2026. He is an active contributor to the broader nuclear community, serving as a Trustee of the American Nuclear Society and as Convenor of IEC SC45A Working Group 9, where he helps advance international standards for nuclear instrumentation and control. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering and an MBA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
“Tighe’s technical expertise and understanding of the global nuclear landscape make him exceptionally well suited to lead our nuclear strategy at this pivotal moment for the industry,” said Thomas Logan, Mirion Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "This recognition from the American Nuclear Society is a testament to his leadership and the commitment Tighe brings to everything he does. We are proud to have him at the helm of Mirion’s nuclear strategy.”
“Tighe brings a rare combination of deep technical expertise and visionary leadership that strengthens not just Paragon and Mirion, but the entire nuclear industry," stated Doug VanTassell, Paragon President and CEO. "His ability to bridge today's operating fleet with the next generation of advanced platforms is invaluable as we push the boundaries of what's possible for our customers and the broader energy landscape.”
