Mirion Supports Expanded Access to Cancer Care in Ethiopia

Mirion’s ongoing partnership with RAD-AID International is helping expand access to advanced cancer treatment services in underserved communities around the world.

With support from a Mirion donation, RAD-AID medical physicist Sumeer traveled to St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to assist with the commissioning and implementation of a new linear accelerator (LINAC), a radiation therapy delivery system which will strengthen the hospital’s cancer care capabilities.

During the visit, Sumeer collaborated closely with the hospital’s clinical team to help ensure the equipment operated safely and effectively. He provided hands-on training, shared technical expertise and helped optimize treatment workflows to enhance patient care.

The collaboration represents more than the introduction of new technology. By working directly with local healthcare professionals, Sumeer helped impart clinical knowledge and technical capacity that will continue to support oncology services in the region for years to come. Enhancing radiation therapy capabilities can also help expand access to more precise cancer treatments for patients who previously faced limited options for care.

In recognition of his contributions, St. Paul’s Hospital presented Sumeer with a Certificate of Thanks, noting that his expertise and guidance “greatly enhanced our clinical capacity for radiation oncology.”

In addition to supporting this initiative, Mirion has also donated medical devices and products to St. Paul’s Hospital to further support the safe and effective delivery of cancer treatment. The donated products include a 1D Scanner, Daily QA3, and an IC Profiler MR Beam Scanning System — tools that support routine quality assurance for radiation therapy.

Through partnerships like RAD-AID, Mirion remains committed to advancing access to quality healthcare and supporting efforts that strengthen cancer care for communities around the world.
