Fiber Optic Feedthroughs

Reactor Communications

Fiber optic feedthroughs provide high-quality communications and video monitoring. All units are fully qualified and can be provided in either single-mode or multi-mode configurations.

Tag Features

  • 1.0” diameter stainless steel feedthrough
  • Eight (8) continuous fibers per assembly
  • Multi and Single mode available
  • Silica core and cladding, with a Pyrocat buffer
  • Graded Index multi-mode fibers available with 50, 62.5, and 100 silica cores.
  • Single mode fibers typically have a 8.9 silica core
  • Pigtails protected by polyolefin heatshrink, inside a stainless steel monocoil flexible tubing
  • Typical pigtail lengths range from 4 to 20 feet on either side of the feedthrough module
  • Pigtails are terminated with optical connectors at MTCN
  • Connectors can be type ST, SC or as specified
  • Technical and engineering support available

Description

Mirion Technologies (Conax Nuclear)’s fiber optic feedthroughs allow data to be transmitted over longer distances and at a faster rate. Fiber optic feedthroughs can be used in new penetrations or retrofitted in existing EPAs, eliminating the need for temporary communication cables.

All fiber optic feedthrough modules are 1.0" diameter stainless steel, with eight (8) continuous fibers per assembly. Multi and Single mode options are available with graded index, silica core and cladding. There are options for 62.5/125/155 micron for multi-mode and 50/125/155 micron for single-mode. All fiber cores are protected by stainless steel monocoil flexible tubing with polyolefin heat shrink covering. The typical pigtails range from 3 to 20 feet on either end and all pigtails are terminated with Type ST connectors at the factory.

The fiber optic feedthroughs are qualified to IEEE-317 (1983) with a service life of 40 years at 150 °F (65 °C) at 2.25x108 rads Gamma. Seismically qualified for RRS of 10 G's OBE, 15 G's SSE at 2% damping with a DBE peak of 405 °F (207 °C) at 80 psig and a chemical spray of boron, sodium hydroxide and hydrazine for an initial pH of 11.0. All parts are manufactured to ANSI/ASME NQA-1 and 10 CFR 50.
