Description

The SABG-100 probe for measurement of surface contamination is designed to be used with any CSP survey meter or any other device able to handle CSP protocol. Its phoswich detector with 100 cm2 detection area makes it an ideal tool for direct measurement of alpha, beta and gamma emitters. SABG-100 probe compares to the SAB-100™ instrument with its better gamma efficiency and helps users in the field with a good probe for multi-purpose large area surveys.

The SABG-100 unit is part of the CANBERRA™ SMART Probe (CSP) family. It includes all key components of hardware circuitry (high voltage power supply, amplifier, discriminator, etc.). The intelligence associated with controlling those components is located in the probe – that is, control and storage of key parameters, settings, calibrations, probe ID, alarm settings (10 values for each unit to display with default setting), etc. Thus the probe is a fully integrated subsystem taking and transmitting the measurement to the instrument, which is used for display.

With high voltage and digitization of the data occurring in the probe rather than the instrument, measurement quality is no longer dependent on external device quality (cable, host instrument). Moreover, a CSP meter is using a serial protocol to communicate with the host which can be an instrument or a PC.

Calibration and QA measurements can be performed directly with the probe, without even using any instrument, by connecting the probe to a computer with the CANBERRA Smart Probe Software (CSPS™), allowing your instruments to remain deployed in the field.

Once calibrated, the SABG-100 probe is ready to be used as a ‘plug and play’ probe to start a QA measurement in CPM, DPM, DPM/100 cm2 or c/s, Bq, Bq/cm2. The SABG-100 probe connects to a survey meter using a 1.5 meter or 20 meter CSP cable.

A push-button and LED located on the probe housing selects the counting mode. When pressed, the probe switches to the next mode in a list of three and the LED is activated accordingly: alpha only – LED off, beta-gamma only – LED on and Alpha+beta+gamma – LED blinking. It is a powerful feature for the user to avoid the need to look back on the instrument when changing the mode.

The SABG-100 unit includes a protection grid that is very easy to remove for decontamination purposes. Once this grid is detached, the probe remains operational and the whole assembly stays light- tight. The entrance window is attached on a removable metallic frame that is fixed on the probe body with at screws and does not need very long to be exchanged, reducing the setup time.

SABG-100 probe is able to store up to 1000 data points from a data-logging procedure handled via the host instrument. These data are: Index, date/time, alpha measurement value, beta measurement value, selected unit and counting time. Indeed, both alpha and beta counting are stored simultaneously when in data-logging mode.

The SABG-100 probe can be upgraded (probe’s firmware) via CSPS software, a USB cable and a PC.

New Features:

None

Known Isuues:

HV failure not active for SPAB15 probe

The status bit 5, power supply failure, is not functional.

Fixed:

SG1-R and SG2-R probes can show a sporadic saturation due to a timing conflict between the analog to digital conversions made in the probe

The initialization time is now set to 30s instead of 20s. 20s was too short to cover the necessary stabilization time of some SG2-R probe

The period of FRAM integrity check is now set to 30s instead of 20s. Because it is
synchronized with the initialization bit

Compatibility:

Need a CSPS version higher than V2.00B to uses the 'firmware update' and 'writing
defaults parameters' functions

Need a Radiagem firmware version higher than V2.19
